Handheld is a group show featuring six Brooklyn-based artists' small works: Clintel Steed, Gili Levy, Leonard Reibstein, Lillian Walton, Sam Bornstein, and Vanessa Gully- Santiago. The works in Handheld reflect what can be seen online, in studios, 2016-sized apartments, and artist-run spaces throughout New York City: many painters are working small again.

Whether the works are diaristic, serial, sized-to-fit an online display, intimate and tactile, bodily, fantastic, or project-based, the artists in this show have found a relationship between image, material, and size that can only exist in a small work. Yet, there are generational developments at play as well, in addition to each artists’ individual motivations.

This show takes place in two empty floors of a residential building. The  space was leant to the artists by the owner of the building and the SBN team at Compass, the brokerage team that will one day sell the building. This is a one night only event, but the works will be available to view or purchase online, after the event.

A portion of the sales from this event will be donated to a local charity. Special thanks to the SBN team at Compass, who secured the space and sponsored the event. The show is curated by Sam Bornstein and Leonard Reibstein
